SO GOES HUGULEY!

Huguley Withdraws from Kiva Cup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., September 14, 2010 – Team USA Captain Jim Hartsell learned through 2 secret unnamed sources that Team Europe stalwart and legend R. Dalton Huguley had withdrawn for the 2nd consecutive year from the annual Kiva Cup matches, to be held October at Kiva Dunes Golf Club October 21-23 in Fort Morgan, Alabama. Faced with the anonymous rumors, Team Europe Captain Brian Burnett was forced to show his hand and confirm Huguley's withdrawal.

Team Europe Captain was truly upset over the loss of Huguley, who had earned the reputation as Europe’s factory ship, the “King of Kiva”, and the reason The Keg stayed open until 7:00AM. “I am clearly disturbed by this trend. Dalton was good at throwing his opponents - and sometimes his teammates - off their games with his unorthodox course management ideas and hatred of alternate shot.” Burnett said during the hastily called press conference. “He is the only person I’ve ever met that did not like to play with Hawk. True Hawk that is. He loved playing with Fake Hawk due to their shared love of Jack and Coke. We will move on though. We are a tough team, though, and Huguley will be replaced by a player that is easier to put with other players on the team. Still, his brilliance of just being in the moment and truly not knowing what happened on the last hole, where he stood in the match, or what hole he was even on will be missed. He truly played the game shot by shot.”

Captain Jim Hartsell said he is stunned by Huguley’s withdrawal and what it does to an already embattled European side. "I don’t even know what to say. I feel for Captain Burnett. My strategy is out the window now and I need to talk to Vice-Captain Skiba to discuss where we go from here.”

Team Europe Vice-Captain Kevin “Hawk” Halcomb, when contacted at his office, was noticeably distraught about the news. “I tell you what, we simply cannot replace what Dalton brought to the team. I fear we may have seen the last of one Dalton Huguley at the Kiva Cup. I can see players years from now, sitting around the picnic tables at Tacky Jack's II asking Jim, "Tell us the story of the greatest match ever between you and Dalton at Bloody Point.” Hawk added, “I really don’t know where we will turn from here."

Huguley was a participant in the Inaugural Kiva Cup matches held in 2003 and played a key role in Team Euope’s 6-4 victory in 2003, winning his Singles match in large part due to a double bogey on 12, after smother topping his drive into to the canal. He won the hole to his opponents three-putt 7. He is widely known for his historic Singles loss in the 2007 Fake Cup at Bloody Point GC on Dafuskie Island, South Carolina.
