A busy Memorial Day weekend of golf was kicked off today in a friendly match at Burningtree (Old). Jordan Hartsell started off hot and was only 5 over for the day playing 16. He finished with a solid 81 in his preparations for a tournament at Eagle Point on Tuesday. The featured match pitted Team USA Captain J. Hartsell against sophomore sensation Zac "17" Ward. After a close front nine which featured 3 lead changes, Hartsell made solid pars on 10, 11 and 12 to put the match out of reach. It ended at 4 and 3. In true Kiva Cup fashion, Hartsell became unglued after the match was closed out and padded his score for handicap purposes. Ward commented after the round, "Jim is TOUGH in match play. He's never out of a hole. He can make par from a rabbit factory." Hartsell carded an 87 and Ward a 90. Uncle Lee added a solid 78.

In Shelby County, Scotland at Ballantrae GC, a little publicized, yet highly competitive match took place between Chief Hartsell/Meelum and European Captain Burnett/Mark. J Skiba. Meelum, The Little Golden Bear, rededicated to the game after spending five years in French Guyana, was solid with a 77. His partner Chief, added an 88. Despite these heroics, the match taken by Skiba/Burnett 1UP. Skiba having recently found something in a video lesson with one of the Top 100 instructors in America, Hank Johnson, carded a 76. Captain Burnett was solid with an 82. Burnett, reached for comment after the round, had this to say "It was an honor to compete today. Skiba and I were very fortunate to get out of here with a win. I just wish Zac has been here. Katie wants to go to Bottega tonight and that's kindly expensive."

The golf action continues tomorrow and Monday. Updates on the only Proper Forum.
