Goose Pond Colony GC

Team USA Vice Captain Mark Skiba made the enjoyable drive north to join Captain Hartsell at his favorite old school venue, Goose Pond Colony GC on the banks of the Tennessee River. Skiba has grown fond of the scenic Guntersville area in the past few years and often comes early the day before the round to enjoy the scenery and night life.

Goose Pond is a throwback to the way the game was played Pre-Eldrick, with All-Day green fees a mere $55. The 2 Team USA veterans found the course is excellent shape, as usual. They were joined by Jordan Hartsell.

Skiba, sponsoring new Titleist irons and a Taylor Made R-11, was steady with all day with a 37-38-75. Captain Hartsell had 2 unfortunate double bogeys on the front which led to a 43, but came home in a strong 36 to finish at 79. For those of you keeping score at home, this amounted to a net Best Ball of 58. The rumors of an early Skiba-Hartsell pairing in November have already started. Jordan struggled with swing changes and looks to make a strong finish on the summer AJGO Tour.

Kiva Dunes GC

The Chief made a surprise last minute visit to the Home of the Cup for the 4th of July weekend. Starting off bogey-bogey, (note, that is also known as 1 UP in the Kiva Cup) he rallied on 3 with a birdie from a cobra factory. He continued his strong play, finishing 41-43 -84 and sent a warning shot over the bow of Team Europe in the process. Commenting on the legendary venue, Chief noted, "The course is in great shape. The greens were slow, but I'm sure they will be perfect when we tee off on Christmas Eve for the Cup. I had my usual chicken sandwich (MUSTARD ONLY, fries extra crispy) in the Grille and the service could not have been more outstanding."

Holiday GC in Panama City Beach

Zac "17" Ward and Bobby Huffman "Vikings" made the trip on down to the Florida Panhandle for some golfing at the home of the old Tarrant City Open. Playing solid golf, Zac fired 83 on Day One and followed that up with an 84. Bobby continued his solid play with 76-81.

Greystone GC - LEGACY Course

Encouraged by his round at Goose Pond the day before, Skiba made the short trip down Hugh Danielson Drive for a round at The Stone. The striking remains strong, but Skiba faltered over the last 7 holes to finish 37-43 -80.

I GO for Guntersvegas. It's nice up on the lake. Golf is frustrating.

How are the team members preparing for the Cup? What's new in Mark's bag? Will Brian yield control of Team Europe over to True Hawk if Europe loses for a third time (in a row!)? How will Team USA's dynamic change with two Kiva rookies, bringing the total number of Junior Members to four? What happened to Big House? I'm glad these questions aren't being asked and hypothetically answered this year.

Those are good questions. Luckily we won't have to worry about losing now that we don't have to deal with a 26. Team USA is in panic mode.
