Europe Wins 2011 Kiva Cup 12.5 to 7.5

The sun sets on another Kiva Cup. Well played. See you at Kiva Dunes next Fall.

Despite a furious early rally by an embattled Team USA, including early close outs in the first 2 matches of the day by Skiba and Sam, the huge European lead was too much to overcome. Europe captured 3 singles matches, USA captured 4, and the Captains finished All Square. The 2011 Kiva Cup ended with a 12.5 to 7.5 victory for Captain Burnett and Team Europe. A more detailed report of the entire Cup will be posted in the days to come.

According to one prominent Team Europe member, the rules of the Kiva Cup and the GHIN handicap system are set up to favor Team USA. In spite of this, Europe now has 7 Kiva Cup victories all-time, while USA has 2.  Next year will mark the Tenth Anniversary of The Kiva Cup. We hope to see everybody on Fort Morgan Road.

I would appreciate my husbands money this week. I am so proud of his leadership. It's one of the many things I love about that man.

A handicap is a numerical measure of an amateur (or sub-amateur) golfer’s playing ability based on the tees played for a given course. It is used to calculate a net score from the number of strokes actually played, thus allowing players of different proficiency to play against each other on somewhat equal terms. The higher the handicap of a player, the poorer the player is relative to those with lower handicaps.

So, yes, using handicaps favors Team USA more because their team consists of players with higher handicaps. It helps level the field and contributes to a more competitive event.

The alternative would be to just meet at Chuy's and have each member of USA hand a member of the European team a $100 bill.

There are several events across the State that allow for head-to-head, unadjusted stroke play competition between golfers. The Kiva Cup is not, nor has it ever been, one of them.

The entire Cup came down to 3 Singles matches on 18, so I reckon the rules are fair and GHIN is doing its job. Congrats to Europe for its 7th win in 9 tries!

You assume people are interested in a fair event, Lady.

Hey guys! What a great Kiva Cup. I knew the Europeans would win based on the fact that they love Eldrick "Tiger" Woods so much. This victory proves that Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time and will win the Grand Slam in 2012 with relative ease.

Also, kudos to Team Europe for winning despite rules written to favor USA. I ask this every year, but how can JROD Jackson be a 16? The man played college golf at Mississippi-Southern for gosh sakes. His 93 in Singles is a NET 77 PEOPLE!

Team USA got outcoached. OUT-COACHED.

Jim, I cordially invite you to sit down with me in the mens grill at Green Valley over some atlantic grilled salmon and crackers to discuss your team's advantage regarding strokes. Yes I know we have won 7 of 9 but that's just due to top notch coaching.

Jim said...

Thanks, but I quit golf.

I am captain now. Jim has lost his mind. Brian please contact me only regarding the 10th anniversary cup.

Also, KCGreat will be coming back to replace JROD. Wickus J. Kok will be replacing Jim. Zac and I are running things for USA now.

Who won The Cup this year?

Boys, don't forget to shower after a long day on the course. Here, I've already got the water warm for you on this one here next to me.

I told all of y'all 8 months ago that USA would lose without Jammy. The man beat the State Mid-Amateur Champ 3 and 2 last year. That is a THREE and a TWO. TRES AND DOS. He would have made Jim putt across the bridge on 17 and changed the outcome of at least 2 matches. Team USA will never recover.

I reckon I could beat the Mid-Am 6 & 4, then. Where do I sign-up for the mid-am tournament?

Hey Jim, when did you know that you had lost the Kiva Cup?

I miss Team USA.

James Hartsell said...

Hey Joshua....I know the exact date. December 18, 2010 when Jammy announced his retirement from the Kiva Cup.

Coach Ted Roof said...

I'm loading the box. I am going to make AJ McCarron beat us by God.

USA lost because of the faulty Power Balance bracelets. Simple and true.

President Hugo Chavez said...

Equipo de Estados Unidos es una broma. Jim Hartsell deben eliminarse inmediatamente como capitán. El programa Team USA está en completo desorden. Victorias de Europa en 2012 con relativa facilidad.

Brian J. W. Burnett is the greatest golf captain since Benjamin Hogan.

Somebody please help me. I keep having nightmares where Courtney Upshaw and I are playing golf and he shoots 42 and I make a 14 on a really easy hole.

You sure do like to throw that football, Clinton. Weeeeeeeeeeee.

Next year, Team USA should just LOAD THUH BOX in singles. Works every time.

I just sent in 64 fake ballots with OSU at #2. Also, just sent in my Heisman ballot with Richardson at #7.

Win might tha fool Kiba Cup ruhpor me posten? I neeb my Kiba fix.

Kevin Todd Halcomb said...

Sorry Coach Housel but since Team USA lost you can bet that there will not be much on here for a while. You see they don't care to lose. Jarrod told my best friend Brian W. Burnett to die in a fire afterwards. The teams do not eat together anymore if Team USA loses. I would have loved to have seen Brick laughing at AU during the Georgia game.

Kerri said...

Team Europe was invited to eat on Saturday. Their Captain declined the invitation.

The Truth aka JRod said...

Thank you Kerri.

Captain Burnett not making his fellow captain putt that 4 footer on 18 was pure class. Team USA could learn a thing or two from that man.
