A Cup of Chatter with Dalton

Dalton, good to see you again. How have you been?
I’ve been fine. Thanks for asking Jimmy.

How did you celebrate the bruising defeat that you handed the Americans in Choctaw, Mississippi?
I ordered an extra large instead of a large cappuccino from Starbucks. I also bought some more of those sweet boots I was sporting at Choctaw. I got them personalized to say Thanks Chris on the stiletto heal.

You’re a Kiva Cup veteran. Do you do anything special to prepare for Kiva?
I just try to make sure that my clubs are indoors between Cups. I rarely get to play golf between events. Last time I played I was attacked by a bird of prey. I took that as a sign that I don’t need to play much.

There is an old saying, “how goes Dalton, so goes the Kiva Cup”. How does this make you feel?
I really don’t get that since I’ve only broken 90 once in my last 6 Cup rounds out there. If that is what Team USA wants to think though its fine. My handicap has been way too low over the last few years.

There have been several stories about your infrequent play, even one about your clubs being rusty because you inadvertently left them out in the rain for 6 months. Golf is obviously not your first interest when it comes to sports. What is?
Tennis. I am in a league in my neighborhood and have been dominating of late. You should come see me play Jimmy.

Despite your infrequent play, you always seem to play well at Kiva. To what do you attribute your success?
Well like I said, I have not played well at Kiva. The success I do have on the golf course is because I know everything that is going on around me at all times. Nothing gets past me out there.

I had a roommate in college that could play anything well. Tennis, golf, basketball, it didn’t matter. He was pre-med and claimed that he had an elevated “muscle memory” that made him a natural athlete. Do you consider yourself just a “natural athlete”?
I was, much like yourself Johnny, the quarterback of my high school football team and played baseball at a fairly high level. I guess you could say I am a natural athlete.

What do you expect at this year’s event?
Probably the same thing that happens every year. I get drunk on Thursday on crown and wonder why I feel “retarded” over the ball the next day. On Saturday, Alabama will lose and I won’t see Brian again until Sunday. Sunday we will play then I’ll collect what Chris owes me.

Will we see any embroidered shirts in September?
I only bring those out for high class places like Golden Moon Motel and Casino or if we moved the event to Peninsula (which I like).

Can you name your teammates?
Seriously?

Yes, seriously. All five of them, please.
Brian, Hawk, Hawk’s brother, Hawk’s friend, & Watkinson.

See you at Kiva. Drive Safe.
See you there. You want me to swing by and pick you up before I go to the Keg?

No thanks. I'm good.
Well, if you change your mind...
