It appears that it will be a quiet weekend on the courses across Central and North Central Alabama as Team USA and Team Europe continue their to evaluation of the shocking 59 posted by the team of J. Hartsell and J. Erwin at Goose Pond last Saturday.
"Hawk was none too pleased to hear that", European captain Boo Burnett said. "We're going to have to do something to get their handicaps more in line, or I'm afraid Hawk - by all admissions the truest gentleman of the game to ever grace Kiva Dunes - might absolutely lose it if Jim and Jammy match that score, or something even close to it, at Kiva. I will say, however, that the performance has made me practice more."
For his part, Jammy seemed to take the round in stride. "I don't know, I mean, Jim and I just kind of caught lightning in a bottle that Saturday. I made a few pars, and I get so many strokes that par is net eagle for me on half the holes. But, Jim was the real reason for the low score. He hit some real clutch shots. I hit some okay shots, but I'm still struggling off the tee. I've got to get that straightened out or I won't finish a hole at Kiva."
Jim was a little more blunt. "Fact of business, without Dalton and/or Watkinson, they have no answer for Hartsell/Erwin. FACT! Unless the wheels come off our wagons between now and then, of course. Jammy's been working with Senior US Open and legendary local junior coach Chris Rigdon, so he's improving steadily. Our 6 year plan to dominate this event is almost complete. I hope Captain Burnett walks in to the Kiva clubhouse with 7 fingers raised. That would just be perfect."
The Kiva Cup is now 7 weeks away. Largely considered one to the premiere events in amateur golf, the Kiva Cup is held annually at Kiva Dunes Golf Club in Fort Morgan, Alabama.
