Team USA Announces 8th Player
Collegiate standout tightens USA’s grip on the Kiva Cup

HARTSELLE, AL — September 2, 2010 — From Team USA headquarters, Captain Jim Hartsell tonight named former Fresno State and St. Louis University standout Tony Harmon as his team’s eighth player for the 2010 Kiva Cup.

“Tony brings a youthful enthusiasm and a strong competitive nature to Team USA”, Hartsell said in his announcement. “This decision was not made overnight. After listening to an honest explanation of the Kiva Cup, the rivalry, the gamesmanship, the death matches, several other gentlemen decided that they simply did not have the stones to compete. The talk that scared so many others actually made Tony’s eyes light up. He’s a competitor, he loves golf, and he puts a striking on the ball. We’re excited to have him.”

Tony Harmon’s Bio:

Personal: Born Nov. 9, 1981…enjoys music, video games and Clipper games…favorite athlete is Jerry Rice for his dedication…biggest athletic thrill was shooting a 67 in the Los Angeles City Tournament in which he tied for first..recruited by San Diego State and University of Oregon.

(2001-02) Participated in three tournaments, including the CSU Bakersfield JV Fall Invitational where he shot a season-low 71 ... (2000-01) Took a red-shirt season.

Fresno State Teammate Nick Watney on Harmon: "I like what I am seeing with Tony this year. He is working with intensity. He is mad that he is not starting every tournament. It is certainly not for lack of a quality swing. He has a great swing. He needs to get mad when he hits a bad shot and then go hit the field until he gets it right. He needs to keep that chin up because he has all the tools he needs to be a great college player."

I find it most interesting that Team USA has added a good golfer to the fold. I was told their specialty has always been the higher handicap type golfer. However, it appears from my vantage point that this may be just the ticket for them to retain the fabled Kiva Cup. I am most impressed by this site of golf. All the best.
