Meelum following the action on #16 tee in the 2012 Cup with Alabama State Amateur Champion Andy McRae. |
Following the loss of Jammy Erwin, USA has now lost its 2nd consecutive sous chef. |
from Kiva Cup sources
Meelum, aka The Little Golden Bear and a beloved team USA fixture for many years, has abruptly withdrawn from the 2014 Kiva Cup less than 2 weeks before the event. He released a brief statement on Tuesday, October 28 saying simply, "I'm out." The surprise moved left Team USA leadership in a state of disarray and confusion.
USA Captain @JimHHartsell released his own statement a few hours later: "This is a tough, tough blow for the team to take following the loss of Jammy last year. Meelum understood the true nature of the Cup and was just a great guy to be around. I don't see the annual Shrimp Boil continuing. We may just go to Publix this year and get them to steam us a few pounds with some lemon pepper."
Just as it appeared that 2014 would become a "Make A Few Bets" Cup, Team USA Secretary @zmward went into his vast address book and convinced USA utility man Boog Ramey to return to this year's Cup. Boog issued a brief statement from his office late last night, "I reckon I can come on down to Fort Morgan Road and hit a few golf balls for a good cause. I like a side wager with Brian too."
Reached at his lair on top of Eagle Point Mountain, @europeancaptain said the following to the Kiva Cup staff, "Whatever. Jim is a frozen mummy statue Mike Dubose joke. I don't care if he gets Victor Dubuisson, the end result will still be the same. I would like to be invited for some steamed shrimp though, if it's free."

Guys,
Hello. When is the Kiva Cup this year? I would very much love to join my great friend Brian Burnett once again on the green fairways of Kiva Dunes GC. It would also be wonderful to see Brick Burns.

Hello, J. Watkinson here. Does anyone know if Chris's Dad is still out at Shoal?
I guess nobody thought to call me. To hell with the lot of you.
Regards.

How about a phone call? Holla!
Gentlemen,
I have my coat, ascot, oh and clubs ready if you need me. I know the manager and chef at Cobalt and can get us a primo table. Word around the club is his grilled cobia with mixed greens are pleasing to palate. A Tres Sabore cab would bring out the flavor in this migrating fish.
Regards,
The Dr.
I don't mind letting The Doctor off work to play in the Cup. Y'all come see me some time at The Stewart Group.
